YISS MUN Competes at Columbia University
From January 15-22, the YISS MUN team took twenty students to New York City to participate in the Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition (CMUNCE).
Held on the campus of Columbia University, the conference hosted over one thousand student delegates to participate in a challenging, stimulating, and enriching debate experience. Each participant was an active committee member and presented opinions on complex, international issues from the perspective of assigned roles.
In addition to competing, YISS students explored Manhattan, visiting the World Trade Center, Battery Park, the New York Public Library, Rockefeller Plaza, and Chelsea Market. This year, YISS students also had the privilege of visiting the permanent missions of both Paraguay and New Zealand as their representatives shared about their respective nations and their roles and goals at the UN.
Several YISS delegates stood out for their knowledge of procedures and prepared representation of assigned roles. The following were awarded top honors in their committees at the conference:
Best Delegate - Claire L. (11), Mia M. (11)
Honorable Mention - Sharania M. (12)
Verbal Commendation - Katherine C. (11), Khanh D. (10), Saeyoon S. (10)
Outstanding Essay - Olivia S. (9)
Thank you to Model UN Advisors Mr. Michael Suhany and Ms. Soran Kim for their support and leadership in managing the YISS MUN team. Special thanks to Mrs. Miller for traveling with the team and serving as a fantastic guide in New York City. The YISS MUN team is proud of their students for their careful preparation in understanding international issues and presentation skills at the conference.
