YISS Guardian Roundup: January 2025

YISS wants to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of our students who excel in activities and competitions that take place at a high level both inside and outside of school. In this edition of the Guardian Roundup, YISS would like to highlight the following students and their recent accomplishments:

Second grader Georges D. finished third place in the 2024 Seoul Family Chess Competition on December 7, 2024. He received the Excellence Award for his outstanding performance. It was his first time participating in a chess competition, and he seized his victory against 60 other participants.

Fourth grader Ari K. performed as the main character of The Nutcracker by the Korean National Ballet in December 2024. The audition was very competitive, featuring more than 30 students from the Korean National Ballet Academy. She was the youngest main character and performed in front of more than 20,000 people nationwide at the Opera Theatre in the Seoul Arts Center, the Cheonan Arts Center, and the Jeonju Sori Arts Center.

Twelfth grader Seungwoo L. and tenth grader Jay J. competed as a team in the Global Startup School K-Youth Startup Competition hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education on December 14, 2024. The team was one of the 10 finalists, advancing through two rounds to present their product at a Demo Day in front of a live audience. They received the Excellence Award, finishing 4th place out of nearly 300 teams nationwide.

Second grader Jae Yoon C. was awarded the Bronze Prize at the 77th National Student Art Competition for his vivid depiction of a live marathon scene. The competition was hosted by the Korea Arts Promotion Association in Seoul on December 10, 2024.

Third grader Ejoon K. won first place at the CHS International Music Competition held at SCC Hall Seocho on November 30, 2024. He performed Dvořák’s Humoresque on the violin in this competition organized by the Lyum Chamber Orchestra.

Third grader Doyi Y. won a gold medal at the 2024 National Children's English Musical Competition held at Soongsil University on December 27, 2024.

Sixth grader JaeEun K. won a Bronze Medal in backstroke at the Gangnam-gu Union Swimming Competition, held at the WooSeong Sports Center on November 17, 2024.
