Record-Breaking Day for YISS at the KASS Championships

The KASS Championships, hosted by Chadwick International on Saturday, May 25, marked the end of the 2023-24 swimming season. A total of 58 Guardians participated, eager to conclude their season on a high note and compete for the medals awarded to the top three finishers in each event.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge all our swimmers who secured Gold medals (1st place) in their age group and respective events:

In the Boys 13-14 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, the team consisting of Yunejay L. (7), Chris H. (8), Ryan C. (8), and Eugene A L. (8) secured first place and set and a new KASS record with a time of 2:05.22! 

The Girls 8 & Under 100 SC Meter Medley Relay team, featuring Olivia H S. (2), Juwon B. (2), Ari K. (3), and Jianne H. (2), also clinched first place, clocking in at 1:37.52, setting a new KASS record.

Abigail L. (6) delivered a strong individual performance in the Girls 11-12 100 SC Meter IM, finishing first at 1:18.13. Yunejay L. (7) continued to shine, winning the Boys 13-14 100 SC Meter IM and breaking the KASS record with a time of 1:04.32!

In the Boys 13-14 50 SC Meter Freestyle, Aden L. (7) emerged victorious with a time of 27.36. Abigail L. (6) added another win in the Girls 11-12 100 SC Meter Backstroke, finishing at 1:16.39.

Raina C. (7) claimed first place in the Girls 11-12 50 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 36.40. Jungwook C. (3) won the Boys 8 & Under 25 SC Meter Backstroke, completing the race in 22.87 seconds.

The Boys 13-14 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay team, comprising Eugene A L. (8), Ryan C. (8), Aden L. (7), and Yunejay L. (7), took first place with a time of 1:49.18. Similarly, the Girls 8 & Under 100 SC Meter Freestyle Relay team, featuring Jianne H. (2), Olivia H S. (2), Elena H K. (2), and Juwon B. (2), won their event with a time of 1:23.94, beating the previous KASS records by one second!

Corinne C. (9) triumphed in the Girls 15 & Over 50 SC Meter Butterfly, finishing in 33.42 seconds. Ryan C. (8) captured first place in the Boys 13-14 50 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 30.23.

Elisha C. (7) won the Girls 13-14 50 SC Meter Breaststroke, clocking in at 40.03, while Yunejay L. (7) dominated the Boys 13-14 50 SC Meter Breaststroke and set a new KASS record with a time of 33.06.

Abigail L. (6) continued her winning streak in the Girls 11-12 100 SC Meter Freestyle, finishing in 1:07.26. Camila H. (7) wrapped up the successful meet for our Guardians by winning the Girls 13-14 100 SC Meter Freestyle in 1:06.36.

Regarding team scores, the 8 & Under Girls finished in 2nd place with a total of 235 points, while the Boys team secured 3rd place with 126 points.

The 9-10 Girls team also placed 3rd, accumulating 154 points. The 11-12 Girls continued the trend with a strong 3rd place finish, scoring 261 points.

The 11-12 Boys team achieved 3rd place with 136 points, while the 13-14 Girls earned 3rd place as well with 175 points. The 13-14 Boys team delivered a notable performance, finishing in 3rd place with the highest score among their peers at 274 points.

Coaches John and Pam Sampan and I have had the immense pleasure of coaching this year and accompanying our Guardians to the KASS swim meets.
