ITS Awards Best Thespian and Recognizes New Inductees

For over 90 years, the International Thespian Society has been an organization dedicated to recognizing student merit and service in theatrical performances in high schools. At YISS we have a core troupe of students who embody the collaborative spirit of theater.

Joshua K. (12) has received the Best Thespian award for his roles in numerous productions, earning him over 400 points in accolades. Joshua started with a role in And Then There Were None and concluded his time at YISS with a leading role in The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play. Audience members and students alike have remarked on Joshua’s talent and knack for robust and lively characters.

Our 10th-grade students Rhea R. (10) and Idris A. (10) earned their inductions into the society with awards for technical crew. Rhea R. has found her niche in stage management and sound/lighting for the shows. Rhea started as a stage crew hand last year and this year took the initiative to manage the stage for the past two productions. Rhea Remesh is awarded the Spirited Thespy Award for this year.

Newcomer Idris has shined the spotlight on our actors and also his own abilities to program sound cues, lighting, and run the visual effects for our shows. Due to Idris’s gain of 100 points in his first year of theater, he has been awarded the Rookie Thespy Award of the year.

Students also nominated and awarded Joshua K. (12) and Anne L. (11) for Best Actor/Actress for their leading roles in The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play. And Jay C. (11) and Rhea M. (10) for Best Supporting Actor/Actress for their roles in Does the Slipper Fit? A Night of Improv

One of our passionate troupe players, Yash A. (10), is moving this year and we would like to acknowledge his years in theater. Yash has been in numerous plays from A Boy in King Arthur’s Court in 2019 to leading roles in both of our shows this year, The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play and  Does the Slipper Fit? A Night of Improv. Yash has also won awards for his work in 2019 and 2020. We wish him the best at his new school and new thespian troupe next year.

Recent inductions into the society include Hayong C. (12) for her lead performance in The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play and Rhea M. for her performances in A Boy in King Arthur’s Court, and The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play.
