YISS Swim Team Dominates at ACSC Championships
The YISS high school swim team traveled to Hong Kong to compete in this year’s ACSC Swimming Championships, meeting head-to-head with eight other top international schools from across Asia. After three days of intense competition, YISS not only claimed victory in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions but also emerged as the overall champions for the sixth consecutive year! This impressive feat was marked by a total of 39 medals from 40 events: 19 gold, 21 silver, and 9 bronze.
Team captains Soul J. (12) and Ben C. (12) led the charge, setting new records and securing top podium finishes. Soul took gold in the 50 Butterfly and 400 IM, setting a new ACSC record in the 400 IM by shattering the previous time by 10 seconds. Ben took gold in the 200 Breaststroke and broke the ACSC record in the 50 Backstroke. Both swimmers also won 5 silver medals in total.
Chloe P. (10) contributed heavily to the gold rush, claiming first in the 400 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 200 IM, and 100 Breaststroke. Max G. (11) dominated the 400 IM and 100 IM, while Corrine C. (10) added a gold in the 50 Backstroke, and Eugene L. (9) took gold in the 400 Freestyle. The relay team of Tommy K. (11), Dylan H. (10), Lucas I. (11), and Aiden L. (12) brought home gold in both the 800 and 400 Freestyle relays for the boys and Serene H. (11), Caylee P. (10), Chloe P. (10), and Soul J. (12) were relentless in 200 Free and Medley relays for the girls.
In the silver medal category, Serene H. (12) took second in the 100 and 50 Breaststroke, Ryan C. (9) in the 400 and 200 IM additional silvers were claimed by Aiden L. (12) in the 400 Freestyle, Max G. (11) in the 200, 100, and 50 Freestyle, Chloe P. (12) in the 400 IM, and Corrine C. (10) in the 200 and 100 Backstroke. The girls’ 4x100 Freestyle relay team of Hanna C. (11), Ashley Y. (12), Caylee P, and Serene H. also captured silver.
The bronze medalists included Caylee P. (10) in the 200, 100, and 50 Backstroke, as well as the 200 IM, and L. In in the 200 Backstroke and 200 IM.
Relays were critical to the team’s success, as they offered double points. YISS medaled in all 10 relays, winning gold in seven of them. Max N. (12), Philip K. (11), Meiko W. (9), and Joshua H. (9), Ashley M. (10), Sian C. (11) brought additional strength to the team and added depth in relay events, helping secure the team’s overall victory.
