Counseling

The YISS counselors act as advocates and guides in enhancing the academic, social-emotional, career, and spiritual development of students throughout their school experience.

YISS Elementary School Counseling supports students as they begin their formal education, learning and growing in their academic, social, and emotional skills. YISS Middle and High School Counseling supports students as they balance the academic, social, and emotional growth of their secondary years. High School Counselors also provide guidance with college and career counseling. YISS counselors focus on providing support in three major areas of student’s lives: Transition Assistance, Academic Advising, and Social & Emotional Counseling.

Transition Assistance

Moving to a new school or a new country can be stressful for families, and YISS aims to help students transition from one international environment to the next. To aid this transition, the divisional counselors offer a variety of activities including:

  • Organizational Skills

  • Time Management

  • Test Anxiety

  • Learning Style Assessments

  • 4-Year Course Planning (in high school)

Social & Emotional Counseling

To help students develop a healthy and balanced lifestyle at school and at home, the counselors provide support in the following areas related to social and emotional counseling:

  • Stress Management

  • Bullying

  • Depression
