YISS Guardian Roundup: January 2023
YISS wants to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of our students who excel in activities and competitions that take place at a high level both inside and outside of school. In this edition of our Guardian Roundup, we are thrilled to highlight the following students and their recent accomplishments:
In late November, Chloe K. in third grade participated in the 5th Rhythmic Winner Korea Challenge Cup. While competing, she won 4th place in her grade group, which consisted of around 60 contestants. This was her first time joining this type of competition, and she had a great time!
In December, Ian L. in first grade competed in the Zenith Skating Competition hosted at the Zenith Ice Rink in Seoul. After skating for one year, Ian competed for the first time at this competition where he placed third out of 23 participants.
After competing and winning the grand prize in the Korea Herald English Speech Contest in the summer of 2022, sixth grader Jacob S. was appointed as a 2022 Junior Honorary Reporter for the Korea Herald. As such, he was given the opportunity to publish his own article in the Korea Herald. His article, titled "The Importance of The 2030 Busan World Expo," was selected by the editor and printed on December 28, 2022.
After earning a gold medal at the Korea Open Fencing Tournament, third grader Jason Y. continued his winning streak by finishing first place out of 90 participants in the biggest fencing tournament in Korea, the 10th National Fencing Tournament hosted by Korea Fencing Federation. He had a wonderful 2022 season finishing with two individual gold medals and three team gold medals.
