YISS Guardian Roundup: February 2023
YISS wants to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of our students who excel in activities and competitions that take place at a high level both inside and outside of school. In this edition of our Guardian Roundup, we are thrilled to highlight the following students and their recent accomplishments:
Philip C. in 7th grade earned 2nd place in the U14-men age group at the 4th YMCA International School Alpine Ski Race at Gangchon Ski Resort. Philip has been skiing since he was five years old and has been in alpine ski races for four years.
Hayden K. in 2nd grade and Jamie O. in kindergarten also participated in the YMCA National International School Ski Competition, taking 1st place in their respective divisions. After falling pretty hard in a previous competition, Hayden overcame her fear and put her whole effort into her last event of the year, finishing with her first-ever win.
Elaine J. and Kayla Y. in 6th grade competed in the YTN-HUFS Elementary School English Debating Championship. Their team of four won the “Exceptional Team Award” among 70 other teams, an impressive finish for their first time competing at this championship.
Andrew L. in 6th grade won the silver medal at the International Robot Olympiad hosted in Thailand. He faced 80 students in his “Cart Rolling” category to place second. Andrew has been studying robotics and involved in competitions for three years.
If you know of a student who has recently been recognized for excellence in a special activity or competition outside of school, you can nominate him/her for next month's roundup usingthis form (yis.to/student-news).
