Boys’ Varsity Basketball Finishes with Confidence

The 2022-2023 boys’ varsity basketball team had its struggles throughout the season, but managed to find some confidence, finally seeing some rewards from their improvements coming out of the KAIAC and ACSC tournaments.

This was a very inexperienced team at the varsity level, returning only five players with limited varsity experience. The lack of experience led to early struggles with team chemistry and on-court success. However, anchored by seniors Paul Rho, Jr., Joseph Jin-Baek Park, Chace Kwon, Joseph Lee, and senior manager Hamin Lee, the team never gave up showing steady improvement.

The team suffered through competitive losses and a couple of close victories to manage a 5th place regular season conference finish led by KAIAC all-conference guard Andrew Shin (11). In the KAIAC tournament, the team finished with a 1-2 record securing a 6th place finish. Paul Rho, Jr. (12) had a great tournament performance taking home KAIAC all-tournament honors.

After wrapping up the KAIAC season, the team headed to Taichung, Taiwan to compete in their first ACSC tournament since 2019. The team arrived in Taiwan battle-tested and confident, getting off to a 2-1 record in pool play to enter bracket play as one of the top four seeds. Led by ACSC all-tournament guard Andrew Shin, the boys finished the tournament with a 4-3 record and a hard-fought 4th place finish.

This team showed determination and grit; proving that hard work, intensity, and focus can turn struggles into success.
