Theater Produces Original Show: Does the Slipper Fit?

On April 16-17, the students of our International Thespian Society (ITS) opened the show asking the audience to turn on their phones! Instead of the usual passive audience, ITS wanted our audience to take on an active role by participating in the scenes and telling them what scenario should play out next. As the MC guided the royal contestants through the game show, Does the Slipper Fit?, Prince Charming couldn’t make up his mind which princess to take on a date. In exasperation, the MC turned to the audience. Community members, including parents and staff, raved about how enjoyable it was to be part of the action on stage. One elementary parent even said that “the students delivered it with so much confidence” and that she “hopes [ITS] will create more!”

Since January, ITS students have crafted and developed the outline of the show. They decided on the characters, costumes, scenery, and questions to ask the audience along the way. Behind the scenes, everything from the sound cues to the lights was programmed and run by ITS students in the sound booth. Ms. Terry and Mr. Ludwig helped students coordinate their rehearsals, tech run-throughs, and supported the process of putting on a production.

ITS is an organization dedicated to student achievement in theater. All the service backstage and onstage-acting by the students counted toward their ITS points and accolades. Throughout their high school years, students inducted into the society are awarded medals and certificates like Best Thespian and Honor Thespian based on their points. Many of our students in the show were 2-Star and 3-Star level thespians, meaning they had completed over 200-300 points of merit in theater arts. Congrats again to ITS and the wonderful night they provided for our community, both on campus, and online!
