PTO and Administrators Host Newcomers’ Coffee for New Parents

The YISS PTO together with school administrators hosted a Newcomers' Coffee on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23 to welcome families who joined the YISS community this year. The event not only allowed school administrators and the PTO board to welcome and get to know the new families, but also to share about the PTO's activities and how parents can get involved. There were well over 100 new parents who attended the event.

Headmaster, John Kennedy, shared about how much the school values parent involvement and how students who attend international schools like YISS have the opportunity to develop lasting friendships with people from all over the world. He also spoke about our 2019-20 annual school theme "Valuing Others" and how this underpins our school’s mission and what we wish to teach our students. The PTO emphasized how dedicated parents and staff volunteers are needed to make many of our school events possible.

PTO board members and parent representatives from elementary, middle, and high school also joined the event to welcome new parents and to answer questions about campus life at YISS. New parents also enjoyed hearing the personal experiences of high school student leaders, Matthew K. (12) and Jasmine C. (12). They were able to relate to our new families and share about their experiences as students.

Representatives from the Itaewon Global Village Center also attended the event to provide resources and talk about the services and programs they offer to help expats living in Korea.

Thank you PTO Hospitality Co-Chair Susie Song and the rest of the PTO Board for coordinating such a lovely event.
