HS SEW Talks About Real Faith and Produces Passion Projects

January 18-21 was Spiritual/Special Emphasis week for the YISS high school. Students participated in either the chapel gatherings which featured “Real Talk About Real Faith” or the Ossembly Genius Hour seminar that focused on producing passion projects.

Over the course of the week, chapel students gathered for Spiritual Emphasis Week. Pastor Joel Yoon, of Gospel City Church, came to connect and present on topics meaningful and applicable to students’ lives. The topics included: the existence of evil, emotional health, and wrestling with God; all tying into the idea of “Real Faith.” Students also enjoyed playing games, singing, and discussing these important topics with peers throughout the week. This was a great opportunity for students to reflect on their identity and the world in which we live in a safe, fun, and thoughtful format.

After experimenting with a Genius Hour format in the fall semester, HS Ossembly went back to the drawing board for a Genius Hour seminar. Across four sessions in the MPR-2, students were given their own time and opportunity during the seminar to pursue a personal passion project. Each student used a packet that detailed how to document the Genius Hour process where they brainstormed ideas about what they are passionate about: from skills they want to learn or improve, to things they want to make or produce. Then, students chose an idea and pursued it, while using blog posts on Schoology to document their progress. HS Oasis students will have the rest of this semester to pursue and document their own Genius Hour project–who knows what they will create!
