YISS Guardian Roundup: February 2025

YISS wants to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of our students who excel in activities and competitions that take place at a high level both inside and outside of school. In this edition of the Guardian Roundup, YISS would like to highlight the following students and their recent accomplishments:

Sixth grader Andrew Y. placed 1st in the alpine skiing competition of the 2025 Carve Vivaldi Park Junior Ski Race, held on Thursday, January 23 at Vivaldi Park. He also placed 1st in the 9th Papa Johns Cup Korea Junior Ski Racing Championships held on Thursday, February 13 at YongPyong. He then placed 1st in the 10th Korea Amateur Ski Racing Championship held on Sunday, Feb 16 at YongPyong. Overall, Andrew Y. was ranked 1st in his age group nationwide.

Second grader Ethan P. won the semi-second prize at the City Student Music Concours competition held at Sejong University on December 28, 2024. He played Sonatina in A Minor by Georg Benda on the piano.

Seventh grader Audrey H. received the Outstanding Award and Highest Honor for her participation in the Junior Theater Festival (JTF) West 2025, the world’s largest festival dedicated to young people in musical theater, sponsored by Disney Musicals and Playbill. Audrey was selected as a key cast member in the production of Moana Jr., and the festival was held on February 6 in Sacramento, California.

Fifth grader Serah Y. won a Grand Prize and a 4th prize at the MIRACLE Challenge Cup held at Gayang Sports Center on December 15, 2024.

Fifth grader Andrew R. received the Honorary Ambassador Award under the theme of Practice of Giving at the 12th Fruit of Love writing contest. The contest was hosted by Community Chest of Korea and the Ministry of Education on November 15, 2024.

Carter S. (3), Donggeun K. (4), Kyrie C. (5), Shawn M. (2), Milo H. (2), Georges D. (2), Hyunah P. (1) placed 2nd place at the U9 Division at the Black Ice Fish, 3 on 3 Hockey Tournament. The Tournament was held at Black Ice Rink on December 19, 2024.

Donggeun K. (4), Carter S. (3), Georges D. (2), Hyunah P. (1), Shawn M. (2), Kyrie C. (5), Jin K. (7), Taiwon Y. (5) ,Kellan H. (7), Logan Y. (1), and Teron K. (2) placed 3rd place at the Woo Tender Cup at the Kimpo Waves Ice link on January 11.
