FunFest Brings YISS Together with “Family Game Night”

On Friday, October 6, the campus was abuzz with excitement as YISS prepared to play “Family Game Night” at FunFest 2023. FunFest is our annual festival of carnival games and activities, live music, a teacher raffle, delicious food, and prizes. FunFest welcomes the entire school community and serves as a great community-building event and fundraiser for our PTO and high school clubs. All FunFest proceeds are used to support enrichment programs and special school events. We were excited to be able to welcome the local community back on campus this year.

This year’s FunFest theme, “Family Game Night,” encouraged YISS families to step away from screens and devices and instead gather together for some quality time playing classic board games. In the days leading up to the event, the campus got a hint at what was to come as the lobby was decked out in colorful game board pieces and cards.

On the day of the event, students and teachers had the opportunity to dress down in costumes inspired by their favorite board games. Classic board games came to life reimagined as carnival games at class booths that were organized by ES parents. Participants had a blast playing games inspired by classic games such as Chutes and Ladders, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Uno (just to name a few!). In addition, our MS hosted a “Game Alley” full of exciting games and a chance to win one of six exciting raffle prizes. The event also featured several MS and HS activity and club booths, such as face painting and slime.

As the sun set, shouts of “Bingo!!!” rang out down in the courtyard over an exciting game of Bingo. FunFest 2023 hosted the first-ever FunFest Bingo game. We appreciate Mr. Marquis’ help in selecting our grand prize winner! Our generous sponsors provided some great Bingo and game booth prizes, and we hope everyone had a great time playing!

Students also enjoyed bouncing on inflatables and entering the teacher raffle. The Dads’ Club grilled up juicy hotdogs. Vendors like Chakraa and Tabom served tasty ethnic foods in the courtyard. FunFest patrons dined while listening to live music performed by MS teacher, Mr. Krahn, and HS students, Lukas M, Khanh D, Andy Y, and Isaac S.

The PTO’s "Guardians, Go Green!" initiative once again promoted sustainability at FunFest 2023. The initiative encourages everyone to reduce, reuse, and recycle. ES parents were urged to upcycle items to create their games and booth decorations. Additionally, the FunFest prize team incorporated the initiative by refraining from offering disposable prizes and instead offered prizes with a longer life cycle.

FunFest 2023 “Family Game Night” was made possible through donations from our generous sponsors and the help of countless volunteers: teachers, staff, room parents, grade reps, MS clubs, HS clubs, and our dedicated parent volunteers. Thank you to all who volunteered for FunFest 2023! We hope you had an amazing evening gathering and playing at “Family Game Night!” View more photos.
