First Grade Writes and Debugs Algorithms in Tech Class

Last week in elementary technology class, our first graders learned about algorithms. They started off by learning the Algorithm Al song along with its hand motions. This helped reinforce what an algorithm is and where to start when creating one.

Next, students played an interactive game where they hid “gems” and had to give their partners algorithm steps to find the gem on a mat.

After seeing an algorithm play out in person, they were ready to practice using CodeSpark.com on their tablets. In each level of the game, students were given a task that they needed to complete by creating their own algorithms and debugging them.

It is amazing to watch some of our youngest minds tackle intricate subjects such as coding and debugging. We are so proud of our YISS elementary students!
