ES FunFest Celebrates the Great Outdoors

On October 27-29, the PTO hosted FunFest for the elementary students in the courtyard. There weren't bouncy castles and zorb balls this year, but we still got to see our students having fun and leaving the event with big smiles (under their masks). FunFest had to look a lot different this year with safety precautions due to COVID-19. Instead of 23 game booths, zorb balls, and bouncy castles, we scaled the event down to having just 6 booths and a camping ground with marshmallows and tents to create a real outdoor camping scenery for our elementary students.

Under the direction of PTO FunFest Chairperson, Sue Park, and the PTO Art Director, Sun Young Paik, the team of parents succeeded in transforming the courtyard into the “Great Outdoors,” welcoming all campers and wild animals (our dress-down theme for this year), for an hour of embracing their wild sides. Students were kicking “tree cones” with their feet, jumping through a “nature hop” hopscotch using pebbles and wooden sticks collected from nature, doing the limbo under a snake, aiming arrows in a Minecraft world, playing kick bowling, balancing ping pong balls, and popping viruses with water balloons!

The great success of this year’s FunFest could not have been without our volunteer parents who came up with creative game ideas that factored in physical-distancing measures. Teacher raffles were a huge hit, and the children enjoyed choosing from a selection of offerings including drum lessons, movie nights with popcorn, and private art class sessions.

We want to thank all the parent volunteers and teachers for their support and participation in making this event happen. It was great to see our campers enjoying their time in the company of their friends and teachers while appreciating the Great Outdoors. We had fun camping with all of you and look forward to seeing you at our next event!
