Elementary Students Film, Edit & Produce Guardian News Segments

Guardian News was a new After School Activity that was offered this spring. The weekly sessions allowed elementary students to film, edit, and produce their own news segments with Mr. Heil, the high school Computer Applications teacher. Homeroom teachers showed their classes the episodes so that the elementary students could know the latest news at YISS.

Some of the news topics that were featured were field trips, basketball jamborees, chess tournaments, Read-A-Thon, Spring Book Fair, Aquathlon, International Bazaar, and more. Filming and editing using the green screen was a popular favorite. The students in the program developed their communication skills as well by interviewing teachers and other students and then writing their own scripts.
