Elementary Hosts Massive After School Playdates

Something that sets YISS apart is its strong sense of community and abundance of events intended to welcome new families and bring people together. For these reasons, ES administrators and PTO representatives decided to host playdates on the upper playground and soccer field after school for families in Kindergarten and 1st grade on Friday, August 16 and another for 2nd through 5th grade on Friday, August 23.

Despite the high temperatures and humidity, the turnout far exceeded expectations at both events. There were plans to kick-off the 2nd-5th grade playdate with a group photo followed by opening remarks by the elementary principal Mr. Marshall. However, these plans quickly dissipated when the gate leading to the soccer field opened at 3:30 p.m. and students ascended on the field, soccer balls, foam frisbees, and playground equipment with squeals of delight and an incredible energy. Ready or not, the playdate had begun!

The special treats and drinks sponsored by the PTO quickly disappeared as if by magic. Needless to say, time seemed to fly. When the announcements were made that it was time for the playdates to end, it appeared that many students wished to play more and were reluctant to say goodbye. We hope that both these massive playdates had a small part in strengthening friendships and helping many students and parents forge new ones.
