Boys Soccer Compete at ACSC in Taiwan

The HS boys soccer team had high expectations leading up to the ACSC tournament in Taiwan. Building off of last year’s progress in both ACSC and KAIAC, the team finished with a 3-3 record. The YISS team proudly seized victory over the ICS Bangkok Eagles, who had been undefeated in the last two years. Tension was at an all-time high as the YISS team was able to frustrate the experienced Bangkok team for the game.

In the semi-finals, the YISS boys team competed against Grace International School (GIS). In a bittersweet yet heartwarming moment, the YISS boys approached GIS and offered to pray for them. About a week before ACSC, a member of the GIS team had tragically passed away. The YISS boys wanted to reach out and comfort the GIS players, many of whom have a great relationship with our YISS team. After the game, despite YISS boys losing the game, both teams gathered in the middle of the field for a time of gratitude, prayer, encouragement, and singing “As the Deer.”

The boys truly made the most out of this year’s ACSC. Despite ending the season with a losing game on the field, they were able to demonstrate Christ’s love and humility by serving others, such as volunteering in Taiwan Sunshine, an organization that serves families with children of physical and mental disabilities throughout Taiwan.

To end the tournament, the YISS boys had two players make the All-Tournament team: Senior goalkeeper Caleb P. and senior forward and winger Bryan L. Furthermore, Caleb P. also received the individual award of Best Goalkeeper.
