Boys Volleyball Concludes Stellar Fall Season

The Asia Christian School Conference (ACSC) Boys Volleyball Tournament made its way to Korea this year drawing all eight ACSC schools for the first time in ACSC history. Teams hailing from Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines showcased diverse volleyball styles, creating a dynamic and competitive tournament. The resulting tournament was an exciting and contentious fight to the top.

As the round-robin stage concluded, the YISS boys dropped only two out of seven matches against Grace and Faith, the eventual finalists. In the double-elimination stage, the boys beat ICS-BK in the opening round before losing an extremely close match to Grace. They then took on and beat SPH before getting eliminated by Dalat to finish 4th in the tournament. Colin C. (12) earned all-tournament and top passer honors for the tournament.

Volleyball was not the only experience during the week. The ACSC opening ceremony included the opportunity to hear a North Korean refugee share about her experience escaping North Korea. Then, on the first day of tournament play, they had the chance to spend two hours with another North Korean refugee, learning about their experiences and exploring ways individuals can contribute to this complex Korean issue.

The following weekend, the boys' volleyball team was back on the court, this time to participate in the KAIAC Tournament at SFS. Having concluded their regular season undefeated at 10-0 and securing the No. 1 seed, they advanced through the tournament, defeating CDS 3-0 in the quarterfinals. However, despite having beaten SFS twice during the season, the Guardians fell short in the semi-finals, losing 0-3. The subsequent match against the Phoenix secured them a commendable third-place finish. Ryan S. (12) received recognition by being named to the All-Tournament Team and also earned the team MVP award. Additionally, setter Ashton S. (12) received the Coach’s Award, David L. (12) received the Guardian Award, and Andrew S. (12) received the Spirit Award for the team.
