Spelling Bee Championship Promotes Healthy Competition
YISS elementary teachers and administration are proud of the students who participated in the 2019 Spelling Bee Championship on Tuesday, April 16. The Spelling Bee started with classroom competitions in each of the 3rd-5th grade classes, which resulted in identifying two Spelling Bee competitors as well as two runners-up. The eight competitors from each grade were given a list of fifty words that they had to study. For the Spelling Bee Championship, each grade had its own championship, and the competition took place in the auditorium. Many parents of the competitors were also in attendance.
The Spelling Bee was a fun opportunity for students to be involved in an academic competition that focused on practicing spelling strategies and sharpening memorization skills. The hope was that students who participated would feel an increase in their self-confidence and a healthy level of pride in such an achievement.
All of the students competing did an excellent job displaying sportsmanship, and students in the audience showed their support and encouragement for their classmates throughout the entire competition. It was a great day celebrating our extraordinary spellers!
