Newcomers’ Coffee Welcomes New Families

On September 5 and 7, the YISS PTO, in partnership with school administrators, hosted a Newcomers' Coffee to welcome and meet families who are new to the YISS community. This was the first time the event was held in person in the past three years. A total of over 80 new parents attended across the two sessions. The event not only allowed school administrators and the PTO board to connect with our newest families but also to share about the PTO's activities and how parents can get involved in all school divisions.

YISS is a school that greatly values parent involvement. Many of the programs and events held throughout the year to enrich student learning and create fun memories would not be possible without the willing and dedicated parent and staff volunteers.

Two seniors, Idris A. and Grace K., stopped by to share their experiences as YISS students. Attendees learned that Idris moved to Korea with his family during COVID, while in contrast, Grace has attended YISS since kindergarten. They shared about the various activities in which they invest their time and what they appreciate about YISS. It was encouraging to hear that both found the students, teachers, and staff very welcoming and ready to help them.

A representative, Grace Heo, from the Itaewon Global Village Center also attended the event to share about the many programs they offer to provide resources for expatriates living in Korea.

Thank you, PTO Hospitality Chair Susie Song, the PTO Board, and school administrators for coordinating such a lovely event to welcome new families and provide an opportunity for connection.
