New Student Orientations Introduce Families to YISS
On August 5-7, YISS hosted new families joining our community for the 2020-2021 school year at the New Student Orientation. For some families who arrived from overseas, this was the very first time they were able to visit the campus.
This year added a whole new dimension to the event since some families were just coming out of quarantine. Technology is great, but meeting people in person to ask those last-minute questions really helps ease families into a great start to the new school year.
At tables set up throughout the lobby, parents had the chance to check-in with various departments. Parents of elementary students spoke with Ms. Yoo to clarify all the various pick-up and drop-off options. Secondary students picked up their student computers and attended a tech orientation course. Ms. Im from Transportation explained how the bus service works and how to use swipe cards. Also, Nurse Han reviewed immunization records with parents and gave them the all-clear for their child to attend school.
During the orientation, new secondary students were able to walk through their schedules, meet their teachers, and were given “mentors” to show them around. New elementary students found their home classrooms and were even able to find their names written on their desks.
We hope that the New Student Orientation helped families transition well to YISS. Moving to a new school (and country) can be a huge adjustment, so we aimed to help by making that change easier.
