MS SEW Focuses on Purpose, Compassion, and Commitment

From January 17-20, YISS middle schoolers experienced Spiritual/Special Emphasis Week (SEW). Throughout the week, Chapel students attended sessions focused on developing their understanding of purpose while Oasis students looked at our YISS ESLRs (Expected Schoolwide Learning Results) of being compassionate and committed.

During MS Spiritual Emphasis Week, guest speakers unpacked the concept of “purpose” and challenged students to self-reflect. There was also a time of worship each session led by the Gospel City Church Worship Band. On Tuesday, Cameron Scott, pastor and YISS family member, spoke about what we desire. On Wednesday, Eddie Chun, pastor of New Harvest Ministry, shared about how we are created to worship. On Thursday, special staff interviews took center stage. And finally, on Friday, Brian Gresham, Director of Operation Christmas Child at Samaritan's Purse Korea, wrapped up the week by speaking about the purpose of our lives.

MS Oasis Special Emphasis Week (SEW) focused on being compassionate and committed. These themes were brought to life with three days of guest speakers and one day of activities. Students learned about the youth movement of the Korea Legacy Committee that serves our local community’s elderly population, how the English Leadership Ministry serves North Korean refugees, and finally, how Fur All Dogs supports our four-legged friends. Students left SEW having a deeper understanding of what it means to be committed and compassionate and how to live it out.

At YISS, with a holistic view of education, MS SEW is an important week where students can spend time focusing on more than just academics, taking time to self-reflect and build strong character.
