High School Forensics Team Places 3rd in KAIAC Tournament
On Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, our HS Forensics Team competed in the first of four KAIAC Forensics tournaments against other international schools in Seoul. The team is led by Mr. Hannah and Ms. Brown and the competing students included Justin P., Connor K., Timothy P., Dyanne A., Christine J., Kyra J., Minseul K., Nichole H., Priscilla K., Ansu L., Hannah K., Jeff K., Rachel K., Tiffany K., and Ryan K. Students competed in five different speech events and three debate events.
The tournament was held virtually via the video conference platform, Zoom. YISS competed from our own campus against the other KAIAC schools.
Five YISS speech competitors moved onto the finals, with Timothy P. taking third place in Original Oratory. Two debate teams progressed to the final rounds. Jeff K. and Hannah K. placed fourth in Parliamentary Debate, and Kyra J. placed second in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Overall, YISS placed third in tournament points.
Forensics is a KAIAC sport that encourages students to develop their speaking and logic skills and is a good way for students to showcase their individual talents. Forensics helps build critical thinking, speaking skills, and character-based competition. This event shows that interschool competition is not limited to physical sports teams--students of all talents can find a way to participate in the school-competition community!
