ES Learns to Be Their B.E.S.T. During SEW

From February 2-5, our elementary school held its annual Spiritual/Special Emphasis Week. Each day, students participated in sessions with music and guest speakers, whether on campus or via Zoom.

The ES had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Ryan Smith, an associate pastor from Jubilee Church, as our main speaker this year. We also had a rocking staff band who played the songs, including Dr. Zickefoose on the drums and Mr. Benedict on guitar. The students loved seeing their administrators on the stage!

For the speaker sessions, Mr. Smith prepared a brilliant message for the week that built as the days progressed. The idea was for the students to be equipped to “Be Your B.E.S.T.” Each day took a keyword and expounded on it: B: Belong, E: Everyone is included, S: Serving is key, and T: Teach and help others as we grow together.

SEW helped us set aside time to focus on good and encouraging things. When a whole week is made for this type of focus, there is always good fruit. This year was no different. During and after the event, both students and staff reported positive signs of a strengthened community. It is always worth taking the time to encourage the inner lives of our children so that they can be strengthened to thrive in their outer lives here at school.

At YISS, we believe that events like this are vital to the ongoing health and happiness of our community.
