ES Girls Soccer Team Works Hard and Learns Fundamentals

This fall, the ES girls' soccer team, which consisted of 12 fifth graders and seven fourth graders, worked hard at their Wednesday practices under the direction of Coach Lisa Marshall, Coach Orffy Smith, and HS student Coach Sophie Cho. The team learned dribbling, passing, shooting, and goalkeeping while playing a variety of positions. They also played plenty of fun games during practice to develop their technical skills. The girls then divided up into two teams to show off their skills at two jamborees, the first being at Chadwick and the second at GSIS. Many parents were able to tag along to form a rowdy cheering section for the YISS team.

The girls faced many more experienced teams at their jamborees, but they kept in mind that the most important tasks were to work hard and have fun. They celebrated the end of the season with a team party. The coaches hope to see all the girls playing soccer again next year.
