2nd & 3rd Graders Share a World of Music
Throughout the year, the 2nd and 3rd grade students learned many songs from all around the world, and on May 9, they got the opportunity to share some of those songs with their parents. The students introduced their parents to the concert theme with the song “A World of Music.” The message of the song is that through music, we can find unity and a place for everyone to belong.
Students then went on to show their many talents by performing songs from a variety of countries including “Salaam” from Egypt, “Uyai Mose” from Zimbabwe, and “O Ina Ni Keke” from Indonesia. The 2nd grade students also shared poems they wrote, and 3rd grade students were able to perform songs from England, Wales, USA, France, and Germany on the recorder as part of their Recorder Karate program. In addition to recorders, during the concert, the students performed on drums, xylophones, shakers, clap sticks, and angklungs.
The concert came to a close with “There is Music,” which encouraged each person to find the music inside themselves and “Universal Language,” which gave students a chance to celebrate their diversity through naming their individual home countries. Through their hard work and enthusiastic performing, the 2nd and 3rd graders hoped to inspire their audience to both pride in their diversity, as well as joy in the unity found through music.
