Performing Arts
At the high school level, students are presented with a wide variety of courses to continue their performing arts studies. With the many options available, students are able to focus on their passion for the arts in whichever field they choose. Opportunities are available to collaborate across the arts, giving students a well-rounded view of how the arts work together.
Band
Concert Band
The Concert Band is open to high school band instrument players who have had past band experience. The class focuses primarily on performance literature of standard band repertoire, developing musical technique and expressive performing, as well as building unity among the ensemble.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is open to high school students who are able to read music and are willing to play one of the traditional jazz band instruments. The class addresses the fundamental concepts of jazz performance, which include reading jazz lead sheets, improvising over various forms common in jazz, and constructing small-group arrangements.
Choir
Yongsan Singers
The Yongsan Singers is a mixed choral ensemble. Any student in high school is eligible to join the ensemble. The music class is designed to give the beginner, as well as the intermediate music student, an opportunity to perform, create, and respond to various types of choral music.
Yongsan Chamber Singers
The Yongsan Chamber Singers is a mixed choral ensemble designed for advanced musicians who enjoy the art of choral singing. It is a prerequisite that students be well adept in basic music skills and terminology. Students in high school are eligible to join through an audition or teacher recommendation. Students perform, create, and respond to choral music found within world, Western, and popular traditions.
Orchestra
High School Orchestra
The two high school orchestras work to develop comprehensive musicianship and instrumental technique through the performance of grade 4-5+ ensemble music.


Drama
Drama
Drama is a performance-based course that explores various theater techniques and styles at an introductory level. Students experience numerous global styles of theater through researching, audiencing, reading, and analyzing theatre while also learning the building blocks of scriptwriting, directing, and performance.
Music Festivals
YISS is a member of the Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference (KAIAC) and the Korea International Music Educators Association (KIMEA) and participates in annual music festivals across the globe.
Theater Productions
At least one major production is performed each academic year. Auditions are open to students in middle and high school, with priority being given to high school students. Many of these productions are linked directly to the curriculum, and cross-curricular connections are made as often and directly as possible. These events are family-friendly and open to all members of the YISS community.
Theater Festivals
YISS is one of the founding members of the Dramatic Arts Society of International Students and participates in DASIS festivals, as well as events from various organizations, throughout the year. Participants are even given opportunities to travel to host cities throughout Asia to attend these events.
