YISS Guardian Roundup: March 2023
YISS wants to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of our students who excel in activities and competitions that take place at a high level both inside and outside of school. In this edition of our Guardian Roundup, we are thrilled to highlight the following students and their recent accomplishments:
Erin E. in 2nd grade won the special prize (the equivalent of second place) for violin at the AKAS Music Competition, playing “Minuet No. 3.” (J.S. Bach). She has been studying violin since she was six years old and dreams of becoming a great violinist one day.
Audrey H. in 5th grade and her team received the Outstanding Production Award at the Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento, California. Among her team of eight, Audrey was also chosen as an All-Star. She has been performing in musicals since she was seven and looks forward to continuing to hone her skills in theater throughout high school.
MJ S. in 7th grade earned 2nd place in the Taebaek Alpine Ski Competition. MJ put in months of hard work to prepare for this competition and is proud of his placement, but he also hopes to continue training to become a more talented skier for future competitions.
Justin S. in 6th grade at YISS placed in the top three of seven ski competitions throughout the 2023 season. Competing in the U-13 category, he earned first place at the 4th YMCA International School Ski Racing Competition and the 2nd KUSTA Cup National Youth Ski Competition. Justin has been skiing for five years and is very focused on continuing in the future.
