YISS Celebrates Music in Our Schools Month in March
During the month of March, YISS celebrated its music programs by participating in Music in Our Schools Month. The National Association for Music Education promotes Music in Our Schools Month throughout the United States for all NAfME affiliated music departments and programs. Throughout the event, our YISS music classes and ensembles put on special performances to honor and show the importance of music education.
The HS band program celebrated by performing in the lobby before school and for all middle school students. The MS band program celebrated by performing for the MS orchestra and choir students and presenting in instrument sections about how their instruments work and how to play them. All band classes learned how sound is transferred and processed in our bodies and how playing instruments affects us physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The orchestra students have practiced and performed in small ensembles. This was a chance for them to work together without a conductor. The MS students performed lunch recitals in the cafeteria. The HS students performed for the kindergarten, 1st grade, and 5th grade music classes, as well as for the MS students. The middle schoolers also had a chance to share facts about their instruments with the band and choir students.
The Yongsan Singers celebrated by performing for the 6th graders and sharing the joy of singing. The MS choir program celebrated by performing for the MS orchestra and band students and presenting about how to sing and the differences between singing and playing instruments.
