Varsity Boys Basketball Competes At KAIAC

The varsity boys basketball team capped off a successful 2024-2025 campaign, making it to the semifinals of the KAIAC tournament. The team finished as regular season co-champions for the Red division with a 9-1 record. The team was led by 1st team All-Conference guards Joseph T. (12) and Andy L. (11), with Tyler P. (11) finishing the season as a 2nd team All-conference selection.

After dropping their first conference game against KIS by 4 points the team rallied for 9 consecutive conference victories, including a home win against KIS. That run of success earned the Guardians a tie for the conference regular season title. With that finish, the team entered the KAIAC Cup tournament as the 6th seed, facing a very good 3rd seeded SIS squad in the first round. The Guardians played well, pulling out an overtime victory with a score of 53-51. A scoring burst by Ian K. (10), with a game high 17 points, helped propel the Guardians to the upset victory. The semifinal match up against SFS was another great all around team effort, led by Andy L.’s defense, with 7 steals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, and the Guardians fell to the Crusaders 42-40. Another close loss to Humphreys High School resulted in a 4th place finish for the boys. The varsity boys, although disappointed in the two tough losses, wrapped up a successful KAIAC season earning their way back into the Blue division for next season.

The team moved on to the ACSC tournament hosted by ICS-Bangkok February 12 to 15. The boys got off to a strong start winning their first game against SPH (Indonesia) in pool play. They followed that up with a loss to Faith and a win against ICS-HK. Completing pool play in 2nd place, they faced a very tough Grace team in the first round of bracket play. The team lost to Grace in a hard fought 38 to 36 defeat. That first round loss left the team with an uphill battle the rest of the tournament. However, the boys finished strong with a victory over Dalat to secure 5th place and 4-3 record in the tournament. Throughout the season the varsity boys accomplished a lot as a team and individual successes like Joseph T. being selected to the ACSC All-Tournament team and Andy L. finishing the season breaking the YISS single season steals record with 103 total steals.
