Maya L. Publishes Storybook and Reads to ES Classes
One of our YISS middle school students, Maya L., recently wrote, illustrated, and published a storybook entitled Lin’s Light.
The story was created in memory of the life of YeeLin Tseng who passed away in Seoul on November 6, 2020, at the age of 28. Maya’s hope is that Lin’s Light can be used as a kid-friendly resource to hold space for gentle conversations about loss, grief, and hope.
Along with providing a copy of the book to each elementary classroom library, Maya offered to read to the classes and answer questions from students. Several elementary classrooms took advantage of this opportunity where younger students could be inspired by and learn from an older student. The discussions during these sessions were also great opportunities to tackle tough topics together in a meaningful and sensitive way.
Lin’s Light has had great reception around the world as the book was released to a wider audience last month on Amazon. Maya has enjoyed hearing feedback, receiving letters, and seeing more young people read the story. Copies of Lin’s Light have also been donated to local libraries and libraries abroad, already being used in classroom lessons and chapel sessions in Taiwan and England.
Proceeds from Lin’s Light go to the YeeLin Tseng Memorial Light Scholarship Fund, which offers scholarships to youth who display a commitment to serving others and striving to be light for their local communities. Scholarship recipients, with Alive Mission’s support, commit to carrying YeeLin’s legacy and her light forward to future generations of students.
